Rug Cleaning and the COVID-19 Crisis

With COVID-19 (coronavirus) continuing to spread globally, this is presenting unprecedented challenges to many businesses. Woods Rug Laundry is taking important measures to protect you and our staff from the spread of this virus. It is everyone’s  responsibility to help slow the progression of COVID-19, and protect those in our population who are especially vulnerable. It is also important to take the strain off our health system. Today we are going to discuss how we are responding to the COVID-19 crisis and when you should consider rug cleaning.

How Woods Rug Laundry is Responding to COVID-19

Our main focus at the moment is to minimise the risk of passing infections. As a result of our measures to reduce capacity and protect you, and our employees you may experience some changes in cleaning times and delivery times. We are reducing onsite staff by limiting office hours and reducing our pick up and delivery service.

Our office will only operate on Tuesday and Thursday from 10am to 12pm. Our delivery and pick up service will only be available on Wednesdays. Outside of these hours, you can leave a message which will be checked when the office is operating.

If you request a rug pick up, we ask that you roll them and place them outside in an undercover area, where possible. However, if you cannot manage this, please have your rug as close to your front door as possible. This allows us to limit contact between you and our staff, to limit contact and the possibility of infection.

Further, if an employee feels unwell in any way, they are to notify us immediately. We will then ask them to stay home until we are sure there is no risk to you or the rest of our staff.

While this may disrupt your service, we are taking these measures to provide you with an impeccable and safe service, as well as follow government guidelines. These measures may change if the government introduces new guidelines. But for now we are doing our best to continue serving you, our customers, while protecting the welfare of our employees. Thank you for your incredible patience during these extraordinary times.

How You Can Help Prevent the Spread of COVID-19

To help protect yourself, your family and our employees, please ensure you use proper hygiene at all times. This involved washing your hands regularly and thoroughly with soap and water. You should be washing your hands for at least 20 seconds. You should also avoid socialising in large groups. This helps reduce the risk of contact with those carrying COVID-19 and spreading the virus further.

If you have requested our services, especially a pick up or drop off service, please let us know if you or someone in your household, business, etc. has shown signs of the virus or has suffered from any illness within the last few weeks. This allows us to protect our staff and customers from the risk of infection.

The Woods Rug Laundry Cleaning Process

Rugs can harbour a great deal of dirt and germs, especially at times like these when we are all stuck at home. From common household allergens to dirt to bacteria and even viruses, a dirty rug can impact the health of your household. A rug can hold kilograms of dirt before it even starts to look dirty. As a result, it is important to have your rug cleaned by a professional cleaner at least once a year, or twice a year if your rug is in a high traffic area.

If someone in your household is sick and your rug has been in contact with bodily fluids (either human or animal), you need to have them immediately cleaned by a professional in order to sanitise your rug. In times like these, a thorough cleaning of your rug is not a luxury, but an essential.

Our cleaning process involves sanitising your rug, so you can rest assured your rug will be appropriately cleaned.

At Woods Rug Laundry we have a 7 Step approach to our Rug Cleaning services. As a result, we ensure you the best results possible. We carefully inspect all rugs to note the exact cleaning requirements of each rug. Our team takes in consideration the type of rug fibre. We also test for the colour fastness, and note any specific stains and odours.

Prior to cleaning, we thoroughly vaccum and agitate all rugs to remove as much dry soil as possible. All rugs are pre-treated for stains and odours. Our cleaning solutions are water based and bio-degradable, and as close to ph-neutral as possible.

Our technicians then apply shampoo and gently massage it into the rug using a rotary machine. This step assists in the removal of dirt and stains. When then pass the rug through our state-of-the-art rinsing machine. Soft jets of cold water wash away the dirt particles and shampoo. The wringer then removes the excess moisture from the rug.

Rugs are then hung in our climate-controlled drying room. All rugs are moisture tested using moisture meters before being removed from the drying room. Drying may take up to 48 hours depending on the composition of the rug.

Our team hand-cleans fringes and inspects each rug for any other areas requiring attention. We then vacuum and groom your rug. Our team also treats silk rugs in special proprietary ways to ensure the rug retains that the genuine silk finish and feel. Finally, we roll your rug, ready for collection or delivery.
